Personal Care Worker (PCW) Authorization Process Change

Date: 08/15/24

Effective September 1, 2024.

To more effectively manage the current needs of our membership, MHS Health has implemented the following change, effective September 1, 2024.

Personal Care Worker authorization requests will continue to be reviewed for medical necessity. If approved, services will be authorized for a maximum time period of 6 months. At the time a new authorization is requested, an updated personal needs assessment (PNA) is required to be completed. MHS Health will authorize a one-month timeline for the completion of the PNA. If the PNA is not submitted at the time the PCW authorization request is submitted, the PCW provider must submit an additional authorization request upon completion of the PNA.
